Sanskrit Games ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at games.sanskrit.dev — a free collection of daily Sanskrit word games including Word Jumble, Sanskrit Padavinyāsaḥ, Connections, Match Pairs, Memory Match, Polysemy, and more. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
1. What data we collect
When you create an account or play our games, we may collect:
- Account data: email address, display name, and password (stored hashed) when you register.
- OAuth data: if you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email and display name.
- Game data: game scores, session results, daily streaks, and leaderboard entries.
- Usage data: page views and events collected via Google Analytics (anonymised IP).
- Technical data: browser type, device type, and approximate location (country-level, via Cloudflare).
- Online play data: when you play Sanskrit Padavinyāsaḥ online, the messages you send in the game's chat, the invitations you send and answer, and a record that you agreed to the rules of online play before each game (when, and which version of the rules).
- Online status: while you are signed in, your display name, whether you are on a phone or a computer, whether you are on the Sanskrit Padavinyāsaḥ page, and when you were last active.
2. How we use your data
- To operate your account and save your game progress and scores.
- To display your scores on the community leaderboard (you can opt out in Settings).
- To send account-related emails (password reset, verification) — no marketing emails.
- To understand how games are played and improve them (aggregated analytics only).
- To show other signed-in players who is online, so that you can invite each other to a game of Sanskrit Padavinyāsaḥ, and to let the two players of a game chat.
- To look into a report of misuse, and to show that both players agreed to the rules of online play.
3. Data storage and security
Your account and game data is stored on a PocketBase server hosted at manojdb.sanskrit.dev. We use HTTPS on all connections. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We do not sell your data to any third party.
Online play: your online status is shown to other signed-in players for about two minutes after you were last active, and only your latest visit is kept. A game's chat is shown only to its two players, and an invitation only to the two players it is between. We read a game's chat only to look into a report of misuse. Chat messages, invitations and agreements are kept with the game until you ask us to delete your account (see section 6, Your rights).
4. Third-party services
- Google Analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 to understand site usage. Google may set cookies. You can opt out via your browser settings or Google's opt-out tool.
- Google Fonts — we load Devanagari fonts from Google Fonts. Google may log the request.
- Cloudflare — our DNS and CDN provider. Cloudflare processes request metadata for security and performance.
- Google OAuth — optional sign-in via Google. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
5. Cookies
We use minimal cookies: an authentication session cookie to keep you logged in, and Google Analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels beyond those listed above.
6. Your rights
You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
7. Children's privacy
Sanskrit Games is intended for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal data without consent, please contact us to have it removed. Online play and chat in Sanskrit Padavinyāsaḥ are for players aged 18 and over, or younger players with a parent's or teacher's permission.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows. Material changes will be communicated via the site. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
